The Central School of English is a small independent language school owned and run by English teachers committed to helping you develop your communication skills in English.

Covid-19 Update – 02/10/20

To comply with National Public Health guidelines during the coronavirus pandemic, our school building is currently closed. We will update you here when this changes. You can book a course for the future or try our online english courses.

Current Health Guidelines for Dublin include:

“No organised indoor gatherings should take place.”
“Work from home unless absolutely necessary.”
Public transport is for “essential workers and essential purposes only”

Small Classes

NEVER MORE THAN 9 IN A CLASS

Most English schools in Dublin have 15 students in every class.

We have no more than 9.

By having a maximum of 9 students in our classes, we know our students are getting the attention they need. In fact, our classes are often even smaller than that.

By keeping our classes small, you can be sure that you will learn English as quickly as possible. You will be corrected more, you will speak more and you will be heard more.

This is why we say our courses are the best value English courses in Dublin.

Flexible Courses

CHANGE YOUR CLASS TIMES WHEN YOU NEED

Got an appointment? Work hours changed? Need a break? No problem.

Simply by giving us two days notice, you will not lose the class you have paid for. We will save that class for you and you can take it later.

No other English school in Dublin will offer you this flexibility.

Can I take a holiday from my course?

Yes, you can. You can take a holiday from your course at any time you like – for example to visit family at home or, well, to have a holiday.

Again, you just need to give us two days notice. You tell us when you will return to classes and your course will be suspended until then.

Need even more flexibility?

No problem. For a small extra fee, you can sign up for our ‘flexi-courses’ and have the freedom to take your classes at whatever times and on whichever days suit you best.

You can change the times and days of your English classes from week to week. You don’t even need to inform us.

Our flexi-courses mean the Central School of English is perfect for you if:

You work shifts and the hours of your shifts change

You care for a child and cannot always guarantee to make your class

Central Location

IN THE HEART OF DUBLIN CITY

Our building is at 23 Marlborough Street, a one-minute walk east from the Spire on Dublin’s main thoroughfare, O’Connell Street.

There’s a LUAS (tram) stop on our street, the train station is a 5-minute walk away and all city-centre buses stop less than two minutes away.

The Central School of English is the most central English school in Dublin, meaning you have immediate access to all that our city has to offer.

Our classrooms are bright and airy and have comfortable seating. There are many inexpensive cafes and restaurants nearby and bargains to be had from the neighbouring shops.

Social Programme

HAVE FUN WHILE YOU LEARN

English students at the Central School of English enjoy a full social programme including cultural events in Dublin, day-trips to other parts of Ireland and parties at the school.

It’s not just for fun – which it is – but because we want to give our students extra opportunities for learning English.

Activities include parties, pub nights and music events on Friday nights, a mid-week trip to a place of interest in Dublin and a trip to a tourist destination in Ireland every weekend.

Of course, our students happily get together and organise their own social events but we like to do our bit!

You can find lots of pictures of our social events on this website but if you want more, please have a look at our Facebook page.

Au Pair Club

MEET AND MAKE FRIENDS

With its central location, social programme and flexible courses, the Central School of English is the first choice for au pairs in Ireland.

We know au pairs work hard so we offer a chance for a break with our weekly au pair club – a social meet-up with free coffee and cake and a host of activities.

Meet other au pairs and make friends!

The Au Pair Club meets at the school from 1pm to 3pm every Saturday afternoon.

There is also a WhatsApp group. Text “au pair” to 086 178 1687 to join.
